I currently have a Fox Float Factory CTD shock that has a e2e of 200 and a stroke of 51mm, I have a new frame coming that has a shock that isn't as good and ideally I would like to swap my existing shock onto the new frame.

The new frames shock (Fox Float CTD LV Evolution) has an e2e of 200mm and a stroke of 57mm, are the two interchangeable? What would the consequences of swapping them round be?

I guess you'd hit the seat tube with your back wheel potentially?

Yes just need to swap the seal head over on the damper.

You will get less travel, the BB will be lower and the HA will be slacker (I think I got that right) There may also be frame/suspension interfaces.

What is the difference between the Factory and the Evo?

Nope - obvious problems will be potential frame / wheel collisions and a very low BB on full compression.

There may be a way of reducing the travel of your shock though...?

Oops, got the shocks the wrong way round!

Ah just worked out you have the opposite problem of reduced travel

I might be wrong but I think that what LoCo is suggesting here is that there is no physical difference between the shaft of a 51mm versus a 57mm stroke unit.

The reduced stroke length is achieved through a different seal arrangement that limits the stroke travel. In which case, you can use the same (superior) unit, but you may need someone like LoCo to help you make the change.

Yes - you will get 51/57 x the travel with a 57mm shock

the BB will be lower and the HA will be slacker (I think I got that right)

No - won't change. Eye to eye is the same, only the stroke is different

There may also be frame/suspension interfaces.

No, as above - eye to eye doesn't change and fully compressed position is not as 'deep' so will actually be more clearance.

Loco tuning seem to be saying you can change the stroke anyway as part of a service (is that right? How much? Can you adjust stroke on any other Fox shock - ie in the other direction?)

Excellent, most of the replies I think give me the response I wanted.

Loco, how easy would it be for me to increase the 51mm unit to a 57mm to match my new frame?
