Hoping someone can help here as I'm really stuck!

I can't seem to manage to change my Shimano XT front shift cable. I've quickly identified what you're supposed to do, which is to remove the small plastic Philips screw on the side, as this guy explains:

However, when I do that and try and poke the cable out, it wont come out. There seems to be something else inside that's still holding it in. All the videos I've seen you're just supposed to push the cable out, but my cable end seems to inside some sort of additional plastic lip.

Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Apart from not taking it to a bike shop 🙂

If your front shifter has the little switch under it to change between a double or triple front ring set up , then you need to set it to triple to remove the cable

Which model of xt is it , part number is printed on it somewhere

If it's the type that can be 2x or 3x, set the adjuster screw to the 3x position and press the release lever. Should come out then, caught me out too

Thank you I think that must have been it. Really not very obvious!

Additionally, in case anyone else gets stuck with this, I was trying to poke the cable out when i could see the end of it. Instead, the only way I could get it out was to shift so that I couldn't see the cable end, then I was able to dislodge it.
