So on the Anthem there's a long section of outer cable running in toptube for the rear and two sections for the front mech.
Is it as easy as run new inner cable through old outer, remove old outer then run new outer over the inner...sounds too easy, sure it;s not that easy to do!!

Any tios please....?

Cheers

Ps, front mech is needed for now 🙂

You could try taping the new outer to the old outer and carefully pulling it through, then fitting new inner. Or a combination of the two, run new cable through, slide new outer over new cable mad tape to old outer and pull through.

Using the inner as a guide can work if the entry/exit holes are not too tight and the casing is greased and a set of picks available (the metal strips from windscreen wiper blades can be fashioned quite well). Otherwise a double ended barb as used when fitting internal RockShox dropper posts can work lovely to connect the two outers and then push, don’t pull!

In theory yes it is that simple 😀
You could use one of Thses to join the 2 lengths of outer through the frame.

Pro tip ^^ on the reverb barbed thingy. The only reason I have one is for this purpose.

Take old inner out, get new wire around 3 times the length of outer (mig welder wire etc)and feed wire in, hold wire at one end (top) and pull outer off. slide new outer on (bottom) then clamp wire at bottom when outer is on (molegrips) pull wire from top until new outer is in place then thread new inner in.

Thanks all. That hose barb does look the thing to get 👍
But, while that's the rear cable sorted the front is a different matter as the frame is basically used as cable stops for both sections.....🤔

A small telescopic magnet is good for pulling the inners out of the hole, as are hook & plck sets from the likes of Machine Mart. A piece of plastic liner can also sometimes be fed over the old inner, pulled through so it sits outside at both ends, and the new inner fed through that, or my personal favourite, drill the stops and fit a full outer cable.

Learn to tie a rolling hitch.
Tie old cable to new one, using said rolling hitch. I do two on each cable, one being as close to the end of each cable as possible.

Carefully pull through.

Job jobbed.

If you lose the cable, use a vacuum to pull through a long cotton thread, attached to your cable.

You need something like this:

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jagwire-Lube-Liner-Inner-Tube-Road-Mountain-Elite-Link-Brake-Shift-1pc-AE9-/162440970635?

Thread it over the existing cable and through the frame's internal routing. Then pull the existing cable through the liner but leave the liner in place, re-thread new cable and remove liner.

Eskay yep good idea that, I need to look in the spares box.....

Matt, I need to check frame but is there enough room go get the knot through the cable stop...?

Since posting this I was thinking of cutting the outer to length from frame to shifter, thread new inner through and tape that to the old inner and feed that through the frame, if cablestop will allow 2 cables to fit through?

The purist not sure on that yet 😁
