Happy enough with a 2.1 Nev on the front but it'll need replacing soon. Will a 2.35 HR feel very different or similar? I don't want it to be any slower rolling for example, or loose any grip. My riding is mostly rocks and sand. Thanks!
You won't lose grip, I guarantee. High roller and nevegal have very similar manners. Bigger side lugs means the HR 2.35 will have more cornering grip and predictable break away. The stiffer sidewall will also flex less under cornering load and after landings mean more predictable and confidence inspiring handling. I would also rate it as a slightly more puncture resistant tyre. You will notice a slight increase in rolling resistance though, a reasonable trade off though.
Thanks. My Nev is the SWS version so I guess has stiffer sidewalks than the standard Nev already? I've not found them weak and people seem to suggest the standard are, so they must be different. Helps with tubeless goo too, stops it leaking and solved my rock ripping issues. Hmmm why do I fancy a change?!
I upgraded to High Rollers front and rear when my Nevs wore out. I found I was getting loads of pinch flats with the Nevegals but Haven't had one since putting the High Rollers on. I found the HR's to be very good for cornering and really help you lean the bike over too. Problem I have with the HR's is the weight. They've pushed my bike over the edge weight wise really, so I'm trying other tyres now. Got an Ardent on the back and looking to replace my front Super Tacky HR. Nevegal's are much grippier going up hill too I've found. Like jimjam say's the HR's give you lots more confidence.

That's definately not right... 2.1 Nevegal in folding is around 600 grams (varies quite a lot, lightest I've had was 570g, heaviest I think 610g), folding singleply highroller I've only had one of but was a little over 800.
Assuming your old tyre is a stick-e, you'll get more edge grip, broadly the same straight line grip, slightly nicer breakaway, a chunk of extra weight and a lot more drag. Also far faster tyre wear. IMO of course, different people seem to get different results from the same tyres

folding 2.35" 60a HR is claimed at 690g. Just Riding Along have weighed them more like 645g IIRC

Only speaking from experience, I've got 2.35, folding, supertacky on the bike now and the weight difference is noticable over my 2.35 Nevegal from before- and both weighed on the same scales
Maybe it's the difference between Maxxpro and ST? Don't remember if I weighed a Maxxpro, never had a new one. My 2.5 dualplies came in a fair bit over claimed weight as well (but I forgive them as they're fab)
But anyway. Don't overfixate on weight, if you like what the highroller does then the fact that it's a wee bit lardy probably isn't a problem, it's just part of the overall package. I don't like sticking heavy tyres on expensive light wheels but sometimes it's worth it

2.35 HR is actually listed as 52mm wide, so sbout the same as a 2.1, correct?
Don't think I need the soft tacky versions enough to warrant the extra drag, but open to advice!

I use an Advtantage rear with a Highroller front on one bike, works for me. 😉
I've gone from Nev 2.1 to HR 2.35, with a (wee) bit of crappy Mountain King in between.
I went with the Maxxpro 60a rear and a Super tacky 42a front. Fantastic tyres for coming down, and I can't say I've noticed that much drag going up the way. The biggest difference for me is the grip the Nevegal had on the rear if you were out the saddle putting some torque down up a steep smooth or loose slope. The HR seems to let go a bit easier. Apart from that the HR's are great, flat cornering is predictable and I can really lay the bike over on berms without it letting go. I like them. 😀
After years of using Michelin rubber tried a HR on the Nicolai, total lack of feel & confidence in front tyre so now gone back to Michelin and normal service resumed.
Minion DHF also worthy of consideration. I like the way it handles better than the HR - and I was a long-term Nev fan before.
Seems more consistently predictable than the HR in corners and faster rolling.

I liked nevegals better than high roller or minions up front, and they are considerably wider ime for the quoted 2.3
