Been offered a Trek 7.3 Hybrid at a price cheaper than chips. I have a road bike but think this could be a nice SS option to have.

I'm thinking that if I remove brakes, gears, chainrings, mechs, shifters and fit some drop bars, all thats left is to fit a fixed or freewheel and I'm away.

Question is, am I missing something like needing a complete new rear wheel or is there an adapter of sorts I could use. I think I know the answer (can't be done without a new wheel/hub) but don't claim to know everything so thought I'd ask anyway.

Cheers

Just a chain tensioner, a cog and spacers in place of the cassette and a new chain and chainring and you're good to go 🙂

Does the rear hub have disc mounts?

If yes you can fit a fixed cog to it, but would need to get chain setup just right. as you don't want to run a tensioner with fixed.

Glasgowdan - I take it that's to run a freewheel set up?

SSS - Not seen the bike yet but belive it has rim brakes, going tomorrow and hoping its the right size too, just getting an idea of whats possible for minimum £££ outlay

Scrap that idea, its only a 51cm.

Oh well I don't need another bike, so no big deal

If you're going to get a s/s bike then leave the brakes on. I'd do the same if it were a fixie too.
