This is probably a stupid question, but...

I currently have Campag Veloce (10-sp) on my bike, and want to upgrade to 11-sp Potenza or Chorus. The thing is, I can not afford to do an entire groupset replacement at the same time, and besides, I just put on a new standard FSA chain set that I really like and have no need to replace.

So my question is: if I start by replacing my shifters and front and rear derailleurs (plus chain and cassette as well, of course!), can I use the FSA brakes that are on the bike already? Or do I have no choice but to change everything at the same time?

Depends if the pull ratio of your current brakes is the same. I don't know how you'd find this out. Maybe there are some second hand Campag callipers you can get to squeeze them within your budget?

It wear is not an issue currently, buy it piecemeal and fit all in one go. Otherwise it is a check to see if brake pull ratios are the same and if the shifter/mech ratio is the same. I can’t add any more detail as modern Campag is a bit unknown to me.

Without looking at prices myself, I suspect that buying all those items individually will quickly add up to nearly the price of a full groupset especially if you factor in selling the unused Campag chainset.

It almost always works out far cheaper to buy the full groupset - places like CRC, Ribble etc will probably have it at knock down prices anyway cos its Campag and no-one buys it.

Get the full groupset on 0% finance, sell the bits you don't want and anything decent from the old groupset then fit it all at once.

Thanks all. I ended up getting brand new Potenza levers, brakes, and front and rear derailleurs for well within my budget. Now I just have to get an 11-speed cassette and chain and all the new cables, and I will be able to assemble.

P.S. I should add, in defence of Campag, that while I totally understand that it is minority kit, it sure isn't easy to find on ebay at a decent price. And when you do, it's not like there's no competition for it.

Hmm... I've just taken 2012 Chorus 11spd off my CR6/4, but then that'll be of little help to you now.
