What options of chainrings are there for XTR M970 chainset apart from buying the genuine Shimano ones, I need 22T 32T 44T.

Pretty much any standard 4 bolt chainring. The shimano ones shift best though.

I've been using ta chinook on mine. The 22 will need a 2mm spacer between ring and crank as shimano handily engineer an offset into the ring.

TA make a set of replacement rings for M970. All the spacing is right and it even fits the shape of the spider.

i'm running middleburn hardcoat (?) granny and middle at the moment on mine, no problems to report. Big ring is still Shimano and hopefully will last out the year

Can anyone point me to a link for the middleburn or TA compatible rings please?

I have been looking for ages and can't covince myself that any will be compatible.

I have been told that you can change the spider on the M970 chainset to one made by Middleburn then use their chainrings, can anyone confirm this?

middleburn give their compatibility info here http://www.middleburn.co.uk/chainrings_mtb.php

can't remember where I bought mine from but for £50 it seemed like a worth while punt given the shocking costs of XTR, plus if they didn't fit then they would go on my XT chainset at some stage in the future anyway
