Hi,

I have just bought a new bike that came with M615 Deore 38/24 crankset. I have been out a few times now and I have decided to change the chainrings. Previous bike was running 48-36-26 and I never used the granny.

I assumed it would be an easy enough process until I started reading up on it this morning and now im not so sure what will or wont work!

So based on where/how I ride I was thinking I would like either 44 or 42 to replace the 38 and a 30 or 32 to replace the 24. From what I can gather 30 may be the maximum inner ring I can fit but im not so sure.

So basically what options do I have? Will most chainrings work provided they are 10 speed double specific with the appropriate BCD? Do they even need to be double specific, I have got a selection of triple specific chainrings in the garage could they work?

Cheers,
Rob

Outer wise, any 104 BCD chainring will fit, sorta. You may need to run it back to front though, so the recesses for the chainring bolts are in the right place, otherwise the bolts will stick out from the chainring.

Alternatively, if you can find 42 or 44 single chainrings, that would work. However, you may find that there's not enough clearance with the chainstay to run that size in what will be effectively the 'middle' chainring position.

Inner 64mm BCD's you'll be stuck as far as I can tell with a max of 30T, such as the TA Chinook chainring.

For the outer ring in theory you could run any 104pcd Chainring as long as it has ramps and pick up tabs to aide changing.
For the inner ring you need a 64mmPCD ring but this could be single speed style as you only ever going to be dropping down onto so don't need the ramps.

It just so happens that I have what you may need,
a pair of Praxis Works alu rings removed from a double chainset where the spindle separated from the arms so had the scrap them.
Outer is 104mmPCD 42T ramped & pinned.
Inner ring is 64mm PCD 30t both in Gold anodised alu and in good condition.
PM me if your interested.
