I have a 10spd triple on the tandem, and would appear to need a new middle chainring - having fitted a new chain and cassette last night, I have left it way too long and the chain now skips under load.

I need 36t, 104mm BCD.

I have a 9 speed with those specs.

Will it work? Will I die?

I guess you're using the middle ring most on the tandem. Have found on occassion that i need to change the other chainrings when changing just one, but you might be good with existing.

Yeah, the little ring was fine as we limped home, and that gets a fair bit of hammer. Big ring is never stressed so should be ok. Thanks

TBH, the last (and only) tandem i had i ended up finding and fitting a complete set of steel rings just to get away from the endless cycle of replacing rings. Either bending them or wearing out...

nothing official but I have used 9's and 10's interchangeably, and 10's and 11's the same, but not 9's and 11's if that makes sense.

You won't notice any difference.

I've no experience of tandems, but I've been running a 9 speed triple chainset on a 10 speed set up for years.

If you can find an old style steel Deore ring in the size you need, they seem to last forever.
