I'm a bit of a dummy when it comes to square taper BBs...have just fitted a Royce Ti to my new Pegasus frame, with Middleburn cranks & Uno ring. I'm a bit worried about how close the cranks and ring are to the chainstay, especially considering they'll probably get even closer as I tighten them up after some riding. Should I be looking at a wider axle? I think this one is 113mm. Cheers.

tidy welds 🙂

I've no idea on the question - maybe email a pic to Sam and see what he says?

longer axle required. that crank will hit when flexing under power.

do you guys reckon going from 113mm to 118mm should do it?

I think you need to check the chainline it's designed for. then measure fromt he middle of the BB and see where the chainring needs to be compared with where it is now - that'll be half the increase in axle length you need.

If you go to 118 you're onyl giving yourself 2.5mm extra clearance on what's there now, which may be enough but with an expensive BB I'd want to be sure.

I don't think the 2.5mm will help much, you'll have to watch your heels on the chainstay too, as I guess it curves out just out of shot

From previous experience the BB axle length increased at the crank side only IIRC.

thanks. Middleburn recommend 113mm axle for 50mm chainline on standard mtb setups. I've just measured chainline at 47.3mm, so an extra 2.5mm on each side should do the job there. Already talking to Sam @ Singular about it 🙂

bah, turns out the BB I bought actually has a 110mm axle, not 113 as the seller claimed. Note to self...measure when it arrives! Shame it was 12 months ago & I've only now gotten around to using it. Have just received a new 118mm/68mm Royce, which will give me 4mm a side over the picture above. Hoping this'll be ok without totally screwing up the chainline. Can always offset it to solve that I suppose. So, anyone want to buy a 110/73 Royce Ti BB? 🙄
