Always use some form of lubricant/anti seize. Never dry, as you cannot achieve the correct torque when dry. Never needed loctite on any of my bike bolts tbh. A wee check of all bolts with the appropriate hex and torx keys every wee while takes a minute or 2.

I've never used anything on a chainring bolt, never had one come loose or refuse to come undone

Loctite

There should always be enough lub flying around in that area, to make seize worries unwarranted

I have had a few bolts come loose on other chain sets but they have always had stock chainrings fitted and never gone aftermarket except for my SS but cannot remember what I did with them!

Anti-seize for rotor bolts, bottom brackets, seat posts (fine amount - aluminium post to steel frame) and pedals. Grease pretty much everything else.

So, how does this 'flying lub' penetrate the threads then ?

Will go with the copper grease suggestion when I get the right bolts!

Samunkim - by applying it to the threads. Simple really.

Rich, try turning the chainring round, so that the bolts sit on the flush side and not in the recess.

Grease on 2, loctite on 2. 😉

If a 5 bolt, leave the 5th one dry...

I just use a spot of philadelphia on mine. Or if I'm out of that then helmans mayonnaise normally does the trick.

Shimano anti seize and set each bolt with torque wrench so the bolt tension across the chainring is balanced
