Needing new middle and granny rings. Currently have Middleburn 4 bolt on there. Middle is about 104bcd, inner 64bcd.
Alu rings from Mburn at CR for £13.99. Will steel last longer? Be cheaper? Where can I get them online?
Many thanks.
deore steel - last ages
chainreaction do them
Steel will last longer as it's harder especially on small rings that wear quicker
Be careful when ordering Shimano rings - I've recently ordered an M532 and the tabs on the inside of the holes are too large to fit my cranks (Bontrager). M510 looks like it should be ok so I'll be asking CRC for a swap. Can anyone confirm if this is correct?
You just saw or file them off allyharp
Edit: sorry, thought you meant the tabs on the on the granny
Dead pleased with my 2 Deore steel middle rings, even got one on the weightweeniemobile's XTR cranks, the weight difference is pretty trivial and they last forever.
With Middleburn you probably want the hardcoat and, if it's on a multi ring crank, the slickshift to boot and once you've got all that they're a fair bit more expensive.
Weightweenie and Deore steel in the same sentence? Fail.
If you're riding in the crap and don't care about the weight then steel definitely makes a lot of sense! And yes the difference may not be massive, but a not-massive saving on every component amounts to quite a bit!
But a non-massive saving on one part amounts to non-massive 😉 I'll pinch grams but not when it loses me usability and reliability. And it's only about 30 grams here, top.
