A friend of mine has a cheapo 8sp triple shimano chainset on his commuting bike which needs replacing. Chainline looks to be around 47 to the middle ring. Can we put an alfine chainset on which has a chainline of 42.7? chainstay clearance looks ok.
It's a specialized sirrus elite if anyone has done it with those!

I run an alfine with an old triple, never had a problem with chainline

Are you still going to run 8sp at the back?
It might be a bit far out for the small cogs on the cassette.

yeah that's what I was a bit worried about, woul remain 8 speed, it's not as big a crossover as small-small, but not ideal
