Last weekend I had a bit of chain failure, powerlink broke and flew away, lost a roller as well and the chain got tangled up around the cassette and stuff. Got home, threw the chain away (was a bit pissed), had a look at the cassette for wear before I put a new backup chain on and then put the bike away. Cassette looked fine, no apparent wear at all (althought it's quite old) so I didn't think much of it.
Until today when I took the bike out again. The chain skipped on mostly one cog, obviously the one I use the most. Thought the mech hanger had taken some damage but looked fine, so I went out for a ride anyway, just had to avoid that one cog, wasn't a problem really.
But, what do I do now? Do I buy a new cassette to match the new chain or have I "ruined" the chain after one ride (I did avoid the problem cog)?
Or do I just stick with it and hope it will be fine after a while when I've worn the chain a bit? I rather not..
New cassette time.
Can you source another old chain? How friendly are you with the LBS? Any of your pals likely to have one?
Otherwise, I'd consider carrying on, if it's really just the one cog. The chain may start to conform to it anyway, and a chain is way cheaper than a cassette.

Thanks for the replies. Think I'm going with a new cassette, probably the best option, and the CRC prices right now are good.
Getting hold of an old chain could take some time I'm thinking, and I'm not friends with the LBS. At all. Hate going there. Tbh I rather pay for express delivery from CRC than go to LBS. I don't even think they stock Sram. But this a discussion for another time 🙂
Thanks again for your replies.
Btw, I have windowless shifters, they are obviously great, who needs windows on their shifters? Except........
