Trying to shorten a chain, just by a pair of links, ended in a nightmare. It's a 9-speed chain, SRAM, I think, with the tricky joining link. Anyway that came off with a diagonal squeeze, then I tried to push out a pin with a chain tool. It was a Park thingy, no rubbish. The pin went most of the way, then stopped. It wouldn't move with a cheater tool, but the little tommy bar thingy bent.
So I thought maybe the pins only come out one way. So I clamped the tool in a vise and forced it to unwind, then sent the pin the other way. Again it stopped. So I gave up and re-centred it.
I never used to get these problems years ago. Is there something new I need to know?
You need a better tool and stronger wrists.
As above, pins come out either way.
