Recommend me a decent chain tensioner for a single speed conversion of a jump bike with vertical dropouts.
Does it need to be sprung loaded? Bodge an old mech? Half link chains? I’m building up an old Blender (missed my old one so found another) for pootling with the kids, mainly around pump tracks.
I have everything I need apart from a chain and tensioner from my old donor 4X bike

A BB mounted Stinger is pretty effective and low cost.

If you mean Stinger as in old school lower chain guide then that’s great as I’m pretty sure I have several in the garage that became redundant once clutch mechs and narrow/wide chain rings became a thing.

BB mounted is way better than the mech type.

I made one with a bit of scrap aluminium. Bolted a jockey wheel at the end and attached it to the chain device tabs. Neat reliable and nearly free. Just need to mess about with spacers to get the chain line right.

Good to know guys. Thanks.

I’m guessing BB mounted also looks neater

Looks neater/is out of the way of damage/is easy to get the wheel in and out/only has one moving part.

Genius. Thanks guys. Added bonus that there are 2 or 3 gathering dust in my spares box.
