Hi all. I've got a problem with my chain slipping when putting any power into the pedals in the higher gears so much so that it's rendering the bike useless. I went 1x10 a couple of months ago with the following (all New):
32t hope narrow wide
Xt cassette with one up 42t expander
Xt clutch mech
Xt chain
I did have some idexing issues due to chain length but I seemed to get that sorted. The chain then started to slip every so often and with everything being new I suspected the free hub as its a few years old. So I replaced that and the chain slip is now worse than ever. So I'm now all out of ideas?
Have you put the chain on the right way round, certain generations of Shimano chains were directional, normally its th side with the writing on facing away from the frame.
Does it happen in all the gears? Have you checked the chain wear?
Why not take it to a bike shop rather than throwing new parts at it?
All the parts including the chain are new, the indexing and chain length were then set up by the lbs when I was having issues initially. Seemed to work fine for a bit then it started to slip in the mid to higher range of the cassette that's why I suspected the free hub. If I can't sort it tomorrow it will be going in to be looked at 😉
Very strange. I put my £££ on faulty chain.. . Had old hub with faulty pawls before and it didnt cause chain slip but rather like pedalling in air from time to time.
Couple of months ago? Mileage roughly?
I've had the same with XT set up on two bikes changed to a SRAM chain and it was fine no idea why lasted 18 months til I changed them last month went same again XT cassette Sram 1091 chain all good RaceFace Narrow wide chain ring replaced each time.XT chain was on the right way round.
I think I had something similar and it was chain length and the deraileur ...
I think I put the oneup Rad cage and that fixed it....
I think the 42ts a bit more finicky ... is it a medium or long cage xt ?
Rad or radr cage sorta causes the chain to wrap around cassette sweeter which stops it slipping...
Without having to crank the screw on the deraileur which forces it up and back an ruins the chai line
Im a bit vague as I've done three and all were spot on but it was the rad cage which seems to smooth out issues...
Cheers lads, will try shortening the chain tomorrow to see what effect it has.
Old free hub was fine, I'm using a medium cage mech, chain is the right way round and the whole set up has about 50 miles on it at best. So it's definitely something in the setup.
