Noticed when I took my washing out of the machine yesterday my jersey has some lovely black crap on the shoulder. Pattern and shape show its lube from my chainring and chain, (must have been from carrying the bike up a bit which turned out to not lead anywhere!).
Anyone have any tips for getting said crap to wash out? Typically, it had to be on a white section as well. I really like the jersey (endura MT500 long sleeve, Danny MacAskill edition) so dont want to have to chuck it.
Thanks peeps
hand rub a bit of Fairy Liquid/Vanish Soap into it (Assos washing liquid is the best for this really), wash again
If it doesn't wash out, let us know the brand of chain lube.
It may be what we all need, ie one that doesn't wash off... 🙂
JoB, I've thought of vanish already. Just wondering if anyone has any other options to try, especially if they know it works!
Epic, I'm using mucoff wet lube, it's all I have in stock at the moment!

You can't even get that stuff off chains / chainrings / cassettes so you might struggle on clothing.
That's what I'm afraid of Simon 🙁
white spirit but that might also affect the fabric too if it's synthetic
Didnt think of white spirit! Got loads in the van...

I mean, I hope you manage to get it out, but why on earth would you throw away a mountain biking top because it had a bit of a mark on it?!
WD40? Works on getting oil of carpets.
Baking soda works too as it absorbs the oil.
I had this exact issue, only it was a green softshel jacket.
Tried all sorts with no luck but then found Elbow Grease - bright yellow spray cleaner and super cheap. It lifted the oil right out with no remnants.
CBA
I’ll second Elbow Grease. Had loads of oily drivetrain gunk all over my bright green Gabba last year - this got rid of the lot with just a squirt with warm water and massage in with fingers - you can visibly see it lifting out. Got it in Home Bargains I think.
Embrace it, every mark tells a story.
When you can group ride you'll be able to drag the tale of how you got it out to most of a long climb.
Think all my bike clothes have some sort of oil or grease stain either from trailside trailside repairs and a lack of old rag or hike-a-bike adventures.
Swafega or don't be such a pretty boy.
You probably ride around puddles, too, don't you.... 😁
You could try dabbing it with milk. That got some ink marks out of a light blue hoody I had. Bloody witchcraft.
@bails, it's not a small mark! Cant believe I didnt see it before, its massive!
I might try the elbow grease spray. I seem to remember its pretty cheap...
You can use talc to help draw grease out of, well its out of furniture, but anything should do. The correct stuff is pumice or rottenstone. Apply, cover and lease somewhere warm, clean off and repeat.
Wouldn’t have happened with Putoline!
Has the shirt been washed? As if so, that’ll make it harder and drawing it out with talc or baking soda less effective.
It's a mountain bike jersey, its meant to get dirty. If you learn this now it will save you much time and effort for the rest of your life.
I'm gonna do putoline soon as I have the extra cash AT!
As I've already washed it, I might have to just live with it
Edit: ALWAYS through puddles Alpin, no fun else
Once you get the mythical putoline, you can fire the offending top in the deep fat fryer, it'll then last forever, you'll smell awesome, and wimmin will be dropping at your feet.
Jesus actual wept... 😂
White jersey you say? Tipp-Ex.
clear nail varnish makes an ideal substitute for Tippex when you haven't made any mistakes.
Nobeer, is that a guarantee? Awesome if it is!
Why didn't I think of TipEx!!!
