HB130 with Sram X01 12s drivetrain. Still on original chain from Hope factory build, well actually two chains in rotation but second chain was just sized off the original rather than doing the wrap and overlap thing.
Decided to fit a 30t chainring in place of the original 32t and thought I would need to shorten chain accordingly but before starting I just checked the length of the chains on the 32t out of curiosity.
So, with the suspension dropped and bypassing the mech I was surprised to find that the two ends of the chain minus master link didn't even meet each other. No where near the full link overlap as recommended by Sram. This seems odd, although I have never had any shifting problems.
What does STW think about this?
I can only assume from reading your post that the original chain was sized with the rear suspension in a different position. That said when i did a 1X conversion on my bike i read somewhere that rather than the one full link plus power link overlap it should be 3 links plus powerlink overlapping, no idea why this is but i went with it anyway.

Yeah, with the suspension fully extended there is a three x half link overlap.
Sounds like you got lucky. You were probably never in the big gear while at max travel.
@nickjb yeah, that's what I was thinking. An unlikely situation but possible no the less.
Well, with the 30t chainring fitted it's come pretty close. There is now almost but not quite a two half link overlap minus the power link at full squish. What does everyone think? Would you be happy to run it that tight?
Well, it's all back together now with chain routed through mech and even at full squish the chain is nowhere near tight with plenty of slack still in the mech. I can live with that.
