I know that this may sound daft but I need to make sure I have it right in my head
I know its round both large chainring and largest ring on cassette and that it should be plus two 'links'.
Is a 'link' a set of inner and outer plates (4 pins) or is a 'link' just a set of inners or outers (2 pins)
I keep looking at my SLX shadow rear mech and big ring to big ring its not pulling forward as far as it could (on a hardtail so no suspension issues).
I am prepared for abuse so long as you answer the question too please 😆
Add a pair of links. One set of liters with one set of inners.

1 inner, 1 outer.
Don't go too short, there needs to be a noticeable bend at each jockey wheel when on big/big.
Shimano and SRAM define the extra length as 2 rivets (1 complete link) in picture form, so no mis-interpretation possible.
Remember to allow for rear suspension chain growth on a bouncer.

the "2 links" always confused me but yes. One inner and one outer.
Look at Sheldon Browns site if in doubt.
For full suspension I let all the air out of the shock, compressed the back end fully and then did exactly the same as on a hardtail.
