I bought a dura ace 9 speed chain from ActionSports this week. It's too short for my karate monkey!

Is this normal? Is there a standard amount of links a chain should have when it arrives.

Chains trend to be 112 to 116 links long

my SRAM ones are 114 links (fitted one last night) and this was about 10 too many for a triple set up.

Can imagine that DA will be delivered 'short' as it's designed for a double?

I think they all come as a standard length don't they?

I use the same chain and to be fair it's been fine on all my bikes except my Salsa Big Mama which has pretty long chainstays so i had to pop a few more links in. Your Surly may just have longer stays like my salsa has?

I probably have a couple of spare 9sp links (i always keep the extra when i break chains to fit) in the spares bin if you need a few, you'll just need either an extra joining pin or two or extra powerlinks if you use them instead.

Edit - The 9sp Dura Ace chain also doubles as XTR so not designed specifically for a double.
