You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've gone 1x10 with my commuter and quickly found I needed a chain catcher. I went for a superstar item as it stated it was good for up to a 44t chain ring.
It's done the job so far, but needed adjustment this weekend as it must have moved a little and started to rub the chain.
I've got it to a position where it does the job in silence, but it just looks a little high on the ring and it looks like it would fit a lot better on a significantly smaller ring. The limiting factor appears to be the lowest part of the device where it forms a cage for the chain to run through.
Is is strictly necessary for the device to form a cage? Shifting on the bike stand it appears that it's stopping lateral chain movement to keep the chain in place. I was thinking of cutting the cage forming part off to mount it lower? Bad idea?
