Hi.
On a 1x setup with narrow wide chainring and clutched rear derailleur, chain catcher needed or not?
My bike came with one fitted, with the above setup (SLX). But it just gets gunked up and muddy, and then noisey - no major problem, just a tad annoying.
What you reckon? Lose it?
not in my experience, I don't regularly ride rock gardens etc but I've not dropped a chain in the 2 years since I ditched the chain keeper on mine.
Never used one. Never had any issues. I regularly ride my hardtail where mates are riding FS and the chain has never strayed. XT FWIW.
IME, for racing, yes.
Not racing, no big deal if it comes off once in a blue moon.
It is a hardtail too, btw.
For a hardtail I wouldn't bother. On my FS I used to drop chains, wear out the clutches so the chain guide helped when it all got worn out. The chain shortening when under compression meant the chain got looser than it would on a hardtail.
I stopped dropping chains so much by riding less.
Thanks guys
