On a 1 x 10 arrangement, which gear would you use to space the bottom bracket for chain alignment ?,as I'm currently using 2 bb spacers on the drive side,& the chain dosn't like it in the lower 3 gears,in say 7,8 & 9 which I mostley ride, its fine !,or issit just a case of a happy medium & live with the chain bending outta shape on the chainring ,or am I doing summert wrong ?.

Where is your chainring positioned? If it's in place of the middle ring there shouldn't be a problem??

I'd be using spacers at the chainring to achieve your desired chainline opposed to rearranging the spacers at the bottom bracket. I wouldn't want my cranks not to be central.

It would make sense for the chainline to be perfect when in the middle of your cassette to minimise the compromise at either extreme. So for a 10 speed cassette that'll either be the 5th or 6th sprocket. If you spend most of your time at the bottom of your cassette then I'd line up your chainring with the 6th sprocket.

Nothing wrong with spacing the chainring a couple of mm inboard if you spend more time on the low gears. Probably more important having the better chainline on the low gears getting mashed up hills than on the smallest cog if it gets less use.

I'd try one spacer each side and see how it goes. I've got a bike with the cranks 2.5mm left of central. I don't feel any difference riding it from the non centred cranks but the chainline is better for the low gears which I use more.
