AFAIK- they are 2013 bikes available from Sept 2012.

So for now - apart from bike mags / reviewers / sponsored riders, you may have to just wait or put your name on the list. Or put your faith in one of the above for reviews.

TBF- I dont think Canyon make any duffers and the warranty seems good. If its as good as the alu version (and even a tiny wee tad better looking) it will be a winner.

Well it's this or a carbon pivott mach 5.7 but I don't think I can stretch my budget to the pivot even tho I really want one 🙁

The cost difference between the CF 8 and the top of range one is a bit of a shock to when you look at the weights. But then weight isn't everything, especially comparing an alu with a carbon, I'm guessing the latter is probably stiffer as well.

Top one has a reverb - that's 0.3kg extra.
The elixirs would probably be enough to put me off 🙂

Also - the flex seatstay design puts the pivot point in a different place than the normal Canyon horst link.

So what's the oppinion? Could be a differ? Too heavy for the spec? I'm confused

Well, personally, the only real advantage is appearance.
It's specced with next year's kit, so potentially the aluminium one could match the kit when they launch.
Downside is that it's more money and potentially longer wait.

We simply have zero info about the ride.

Would it just not be similar to the alloy?

I've been looking at those as well. I think the spec/value for money argument comes down to personal preference, but the OP question is a very valid one: What's the ride like?

I'm presuming there will be something of a difference between the well-regarded alloy frame and the unknown carbon frame because of the (slightly) different pivot mechanisms. But I'm also guessing that nobody has ridden a CF, other than the German press?

Surely a Bandit is a fair bit different than a CF Canyon? Not checked the geometries but the weight must be significantly different.

Canyon Nerve xc 8 arrived okay.

This is my personal view of both the bike and the purchasing process - I have no axe to grind and hope you find it helpful...

I have had the bike out for a few rides and I'm really happy with it.

Bike is really taut and agile. I was a bit concerned that the head angle would feel too steep - but it doesn't at all.

Alongside my wife's new Trek ex9 it is SUPERLIGHT!! - all in at 11kg on my scales. Trek is (13kg in her frame size)

Really great build quality, only niggle is that there is a bit of cable rub appearing on the frame near the headset, but I have just ordered some helitape to protect that area.

As far as dealing with Canyon is concerned I can comment as follows--

I ordered the bike with a delivery slot about 5 weeks out.

A week later I went on holiday for a week, and came home to find a box out in the rain next to the house... containing a £2,500 bike... glad it was still there and pleased that their online estimated delivery dates were wildly inaccurate - in my favour.

Their UK phone service is completely non existent. I tried so many times to speak to someone that I ended up phoning Germany with a post delivery query and - even though they spoke perfect english they told me to phone England... I tried and tried and tried. Never got a person to answer and whenever I got through to an answerphone was told to email....

SO - just pretend they don't have a phone service. When I have emailed they have got back in touch in a reasonable timescale. They would be better just getting rid of the phone service if they can't adequately resource it...

My Rating is as follows:

Delivery Experience 6/10 - they just got the dates so wrong

Post sales Customer Service 4.5/10

Bike Assembly 6.5/10 - could have done with some bike specific instructions, but got there in the end - yes all that is required is wheels, handlebars, pedals, and air pressure, and if you don't need instructions to do this then skip this mark - if you do need instructions the one's provided weren't brilliant.

Bike Quality Finish and Fittings - 9/10

And now that it has arrived, and is put together and the memory of buying it is a fading one

Current Satisfaction 9/10

(I am 100kg, 6'1" with longish legs and the Large fits me very well.)

I agree regarding the UK support, the guy is not very helpful at all, I tried phoning Germany too, to get a decent answer.

Canyon's UK centre are a nightmare to get hold of. I had to have my frame replaced and they stopped answering emails or when they did they weren't especially helpful. Said they'd have it for 2-3 days, ended up being almost 3 weeks.

I would say I can't fault the bike but last weekend I had to take apart the bolts holding all the pivot bearings in and do them back up properly. After about 20 rides they had mostly worked loose and the one behind the chainset was trying to come out completely, as in it would have fallen on the trail had the small ring prevented it. You can't just do it back up as it's inaccessible without removing the whole chainset so I had to limp home.

This had happened once before so although I'd screwed it back in I think the suspension design must have an effect on working it loose again?

Anyhow, all pivot bearings held in place with blue threadlock on the bolts to stop them coming out again. Something I'm fairly surprised they don't do when building the frame in the first place.

Sorry, should have said. I have a Nerve AM 9.0X. I'll also add that it's a bloody superb bike, just a little frustrating to have had a few niggly little problems with it but any bike can have those.
