Hi guys, any Prime Disc Road users that can direct me or tell me where too get the centre locking rings??
I bought these a while ago online and just got around too fitting,on inspection they've supplied lots of spares axles, adaptors, spokes etc but no locking rings for the centre lock rotors, just need too know if anyone else has had the same or can tell me if they should/shldnt come with locking rings?
I've been searching and can't find Prime lock rings, also, are they standard on all centre lock hub wheels same??
Rotors i have are Trp,without locks.
Ta.
The lock rings come with the rotors and are usually the cassette tool fitting type. Be aware that if you're running with a 15mm axle you'll need the lock ring that uses a BB tool. I'll see if I can get some links.
Just looked on CRC. It seems trp rotors don't come with lock rings. If you confirm what axle fittings you have I can see if I can dig out my unused lockrings. I should have 2 I don't need unless I lost them!!!
Adam that's right, the trp came without,fr axle is 10mm bolt thru, atm rear is 9mm qr but have what I think is a 142mm/12 axle as a spare that I will no doubt go with in the future as the frame will take it,and prefer as I've on the mtb.
R.e spare lock rings, yes I would be interested albeit they'll fit,
Cheers.
Sorry,15mm front
They should fit. I found one. I'll have a look for the other a bit later. Pm me your address and I'll bung them in the post.
Awzum!!thanks for the reply AT,
ill fire it across
Ah no. Our posts crossed. The one I have will fit the rear, but not the front.
You'll need one of these for the front.
No problem at all,I appreciate knowing now that the lock ring should come with the rotor itself, ill have another in-depth search,if no luck i'll send the trp's back and find a pair with locks if possible.
Edit:Thanks for the link.
I have a pair of unused lock rings that will work. PM me if interested
To summarise, Shimano DO come with the cassette fitment lock rings. CRC page said that trp ones don't. Even if you get Shimano rotors, if you're running 15mm at the front then you'll need a thing like the Merlin link above (BB fitment).
A bit of extra info, that may or may not be relevant....
When I built my road bike, the Shimano icetech rotors came with cassette style lock rings.
These couldn't be used, as the axle end on the bontrager wheels were too fat to allow the cassette lock-ring to fit over them.
Luckily, bontrager wheels cone with lock-ring like the ones linked to by Adamt.
Unluckily, whilst the rear wheel was fine, the lock-ring on the front wheel snagged the bulge surrounding the disc brake mounting hole on the fork.
After a bit of swearing, and a lot of head scratching, Joe at Freeborn bikes, in Horsham, came to the rescue by suggesting that I use the lock-ring from a Shimano centrelock to 6 bolt adapter.
If you need to do this, you need one of these...

...which are - strangely - cheaper than just the 15mm lock-ring. EDIT - well, they were, two years ago
i think I've also got one in the drawer if you need one.
Thanks guys, too many times I've gone on too do some self building with a 'bull in China shop' attitude, with the knowledge, opinions and advice on here from you guys regarding builds its a bloody good asset.
@belugabob thanks for the heads up,not wanting too go down the 6 bolt adaptor route right now,I bought the centrelock hubs specifically,I'm hoping ill manage too find what I'm after.
@tojv,cheers fella,a couple of the other guys have kindly offered spares they have but if it doesn't work out I might just if you don't mind take you up on that.
Cheers.
@trap6, not suggesting that you go down the 6 bolt route - just that the lock-ring supplied with the adapter is thinner, thereby providing a solution to the snagging issue (IF it's an issue)
No,I didn't think you meant that, sorry too sound short,
I think that if there weren't any options with a standard lock ill have too go down that road,
It's a solution which is good.
Just too clarify,Adam t has kindly sent one of the lock rings in the post too me,and regarding the front 15mm I managed too pick up by chance on the way too visiting an art exhibition, walking for the first time thru Sunderland when I saw from the corner of my eye a bike shop(Darke Cycles),as always I just couldn't help myself by having a nose,on leaving I asked if by chance they would have a HB20 shimano adaptor lock ring, chap turns around pulls one out of the spares box, exchange a small fee for the pair and walked away chuffed as!!!my faith in high street bike shops is on the UP!!
Yay!!
Thanks again guys.
