I am buildung up a new FS 29 that is 150 front and 140 rear. I have a new pr of the Lyriks in a box from the recent PSA. I have now been offered a pr of CC Helm mk2 coil in 150mm, or air in 130mm.

I havnt used Helm before so im wondering wheather they are better than the Lyriks for my 85kg riding in N Wales. I have other bikes so its my first foray in LLS geometry if that makes a difference...

Any hwlp ref performance/home maintenance etc happily accepted

I’d stick with the Lyrik - assuming it’s got the rc2 damper. I think it’s meant to be stiffer than the Helm chassis wise (which is more comparable to a Pike) - and it’s easier to setup.

The helm is meant to be super adjustable but it’s easier to end up with a bad setup. Still a decent fork though and would think it should be plush if it’s the coil version. That said you’ll have to see if the coil is the right wind for your weight - you may have to try a few different ones to get it perfect.

A buddy of mine had a Helm air. Was great when it was working, but he had no end of problems with it unfortunately. Sold it and went back to a Lyrik.

Hmmm, this is sounding like the RC2 Lyriks are the way forwards...

I'm on a Helm 2 air. I'd say its never "comfortable", but the support and grip is bloody amazing if you're riding flat out. They feel a bit wooden when bimbling.

I've just had mine serviced and they diagnosed a swollen glide ring on the damper piston (WTF they decided to use a material that swells in contact with oil for a part that lives submerged in the stuff??) which had buggered the small bump and they now feel like new again.

DIY servicing is (officially) limited to lower leg services - CC are quite cagey compared to RS about full strip downs.

Not had issues with stiffness, but at 65kg, its never a massive issue and is always one of those things that you don't notice until you try something different.

Got one on my Titan. Stiffness not an issue for a twig like me at somewhere between 60-65kg. I bought mine from tftuned, so they set it up for me and aside from putting on a dab more hsc I've not touched the thing. What I can't do is compare to a modern lyrik as all my previous bikes have been pikes - one fitted with a luftkappe and the other coil converted and fitted with the FAST damper. It's loads better than either of them, but that may not be saying a great deal. No issues with it so far and have had it a year. I knew I wanted coil, so somewhat limited options when I bought.
