Was up today for a wee gander and what I saw was great.. Was a bit short on time and disorientated by the construction paths laid out for the trail builders and wind turbine folk..
Heading up again Sunday morning with a couple of mates- have looked at The Facebook page and the official map but still had problems.
Slightly ashamed to ask but does anyone have a GPS file that we could follow?? I remember when it was just fields (etc..) but after the radio mast bit I got a bit lost then had to bail to get to work.

Appreciate any assistance.
Cheers.

It is a bit confusing just now.

I think you take the trail between the radio mast and the road.

Aye, that's kinda what I did.. Past the gate/barrier down towards the mast.. That's where the confusion set in though I reckon!
Went straight across towards the Forrest at first as I knew there was "deffo" some old trails there. Met a nice chap in a mini excavator- gave me dire ruins and was very helpful.
Wish I'd paid just a smidgen more attention though!!

Must be- or an unnoticed autocorrect!
Probably could be worse things to get up there!

Not got a GPS file but its not all that hard to follow once you've done a couple of laps:

At the carpark go right.

Stay on this path, the first obstacle you'll get to is some easy rock steps.

The trail bears left to this point to an unfinished rocky section that ends in a fenced off construction site.

Follow the really obvious muddy line to the left round the construction site.

The muddy line takes you to back to the proper trail where the outbound route crosses the return route.

The correct path is down the rocky descent, through the tight berms.

From here follow the trail to the Dual Slalom

Down the dual slalom up a long climb to an open section beside the radio mast.

You'll reach the left hand bend with the three lines.

After this bend either bear left up the short sharp climb to the top of the steep chute or just go straight. Both option lead bak to the main trail.

Continue on the trail crossing the open area again and going back into the trees.

You then cross the lumpy puddly bedrock section. At the end of this section you will be back where you joined the trail from the muddy diversion.

Follow the trail straight ahead (don't turn right)

Follow the trail back to the car park

3 laps of Cathkin with a massive amount of faff: http://app.strava.com/activities/41245443

The only confusing bit is where you go round the building site imo, the rest all makes sense to me

no files, but will try and describe. head off right from car park on the narrower track, down the first wide rocky section towards the construction compound, skirt left round it and then bear right to main path (boggy bit) to pick up steep stoney descent. Follow trail down and through the big doubly bermy section. This ends in a turn right and a singletrack slight climb towards radio mast area. You come up to a right hand climb corner, where you keep right, then immediate left over a low wall. this leads you onto the Alpine switchback climb, which you go up and follow trail to the first of the descent features on your left, which is the one with the 3 options. take your pick of these, follow run out and keep left, which takes you back to the top plateau, where you then go sharp right down the second of the big descent features. Follow the natural run out and stick to the outside trail, which meanders its way round the edge of teh area, back up into the forest section.

Hope that makes some sense 😆

Go to the right round the construction site, the left gets pretty boggy and can be a bit of an unenjoyable slog

I've only been at night or the weekend myself, not sure how much construction other than at the wind turbine is still going on. The trail is pretty much finished

Builders seem happy for you to ride it- been up a few times now.
Bumped into some trail builders one weekday on my own and they seemed happy for me to be riding on it- gave me directions!
If you want directions give me a shout!

Every time we have been up we have seen workers and they have been fine, even when we rode down the double slalom run they were working on it,they just asked if we rode round a wee bit to let it settle, which we had no objection to it,

Met the race organiser and designer last week and they were asking how we enjoyed the course....all in all its a great course, although most of the "berms" if you could call them that are not really needed,if you try to ride them it slows you down more than just blasting straight through....

sorry althepal, missed your shout. I was up there on Monday probably about 09:30, left about 11am.

all was as mentioned above, a couple of bits of trail building in progress, with the workers very friendly. main construction activity centred around the wind turbine leaving the trails largely free. quiet a lot of dog walkers and probably half a dozen riders on the course all good fun. I actually rode by on the road bike on the Sunday and place looked packed, it's going to be a busy place at weekends me thinks!
