Returning to MTB after a few years not being able to ride for various reasons.
Looking for a new, secondhand bike, and wondering what happened to the old classifieds forum on here? It was so active and the new system doesn’t seem very active at all!
What does everyone use these days for finding good second hand kit? Pink bike?

They screwed it up during an 'upgrade' then blamed us for not using it right. I don't bother at all now with it which seems to be the default. No doubt this thread will be closed as 'dissent will not be tolerated...'.

It was upgraded to add many of the features users asked for with the added bonus you can pay for boosted adds which has created some income to help keep this place afloat.

Some people don’t like it and get a little paranoid.

...and it all works fine on Drac's iPad so that's OK 😁

Some people prefer the old one
Some people prefer the new one
It doesn't actually matter what we think anyway

Perhaps standing in a queue in the post office to post a chainring isn't what most people would consider to be essential right now.

I do miss the format of the old classified jumble sale, that said I’ve had some cracking stuff off of the new ones and missed out of a few items so it’s definitely an active marketplace.

Don't confuse seeing the same boosted ads at the top as inactivity.

Print the postage at home, then put it in a postbox. No need to stand in a queue.

I had my first look in ages today, busy than expected given the lockdown.

The new classifieds took a while to get going. They were difficult to use to begin with. Over time stw have made a lot of improvements and they work well now imo.

However, a combination of people missing the old one and the initial teething problems put a lot of people off and they stopped using it. As time goes by more of us are using it again and it's getting more popular. There will be some that just refuse to use it and/or have left because of it.

It does take more time now as you have to input more details and upload photos. Some people can't be bothered with all that.

As above the current lock down has stopped people selling. It's stopped me. I'll wait a few weeks to see what happens and if it's appropriate to start selling again.

Really? I'd expect them to be busier than normal. Seen loads of "I've just tidied the garage" posts as well as all the bike fettling that is going on right now. Seems like a perfect storm for selling bits.

Yeah, Pinkbike or eBay.

Shame about what happened here, they could have incorporated paid pinned ads into the old forum-style listings and kept everybody happy.

I was aware there was a bit of a fuss about the new classifieds, but couldn't really care less.
I went to have a look last week though, specifically for a rear hub. Now I see why it's being slated - utterly rubbish 😂
The theory is good, but execution is pants. See PB for how it should work.

As above, the original style with pinned posts paid for would do the job just fine.

To be fair, I've had a bit of a break from being as active as I used to be and from what I can see, the forums in general are a load quieter than they used to be. Classifieds might have contributed to that - I certainly preferred the old ones more. New ones seem more like the electric handbrake... a solution for a non-existant problem.
