Any thoughts on how to remove a cassette which seems to be stuck on there pretty tight... been working on it for about half an hour with no luck.
1: Yes, the lock ring has been removed
2: Managed to get off the two/ three loose cogs and spacer but the main body just wont budge.

Any suggestions?

You've used a steel cassette on a hope hub and it's bitten into to the soft alloy of the freehub.
You need to rotate it back slightly so that it'll slide off.
Chances are though that you're going to need to get a new free-hub.

I usually insert a long flat head screwdriver between the last (lowest) sprocket and the hub flange and gently prise it. If you work your way round it usually comes free. When you put the new cassette on use copperslip on the splines, it works very well. Oh, I occassionally tap (gently) the cassette that is coming off with a soft hammer or mallet to try and get it free!

Use an aluminium spidered cassette blaaa blaa....you know the drill. IME they get stuck even with expensive cassettes.

If you have access to a large vice pull the freehub assembly off the hub complete with cassette and open the vice up to support the back of the cassette, the whack the freehub with a lump of wood/hammer to free it up.

Will persevere with it, no access to a vice unfortunately!

Cheers

Does the freehub look damaged where the loose cogs were?

Could you use a large wrench to grip the exposed end of the hub and then use the chain whip to pull the main cassette body back (anti -clockwise?) into the proper grooves where it should slide off easily?

I tend to find that hitting the cassette it self with a rubber mallet in the anti clockwise direction tends to pull it out of the grooves it's made and free it up. Will take several whacks though if it's really stuck.
