Hi. I'm wanting to upgrade a Mountain bike from freewheel hub to a cassette hub.
I want it to be Shimano. HG fitting. To fit a 7-speed cassette. I will use a solid through axle but can convert a quick release hub. The hub axel can be 10mm or 12mm.
I need to find a popular model. A mainstream model currently the most popular model that sells a lot. So that it...
...is low and well priced brand new.
...has many new spares being sold.
...has models being sold second hand.
...has spares being sold second hand.
So my question is...
Can anyone with current experience in the bike world at this moment in time suggest such a model?

Shimano hubs at the lower end price of the market really don't have "spare parts" as a rule. A) they last forever if you look after them. B) the moment you don't look after them, they're pretty much dead (pitted races). I've still got 9 speed generation shimano hubs with 10s of thousands of km on them......has many new spares being sold.

But something like a 10 speed deore hub with some spacers to get the 7 speed cassette to fit would probably work well.
Take a look at Bitex or even Halo hubs. Pretty sure both have decent spares available.Â
Also I came across this shop the other week when looking for a wheel. He builds all the wheels from scratch and has loads of different combinations. Was talking to the guy and he was very friendly in recommending a wheel for my needs. In the end I found a wheel elsewhere but would consider him in the future as they seem to hit the sweet spot of value.Â
