Until bike has unknown history as it’s second hand from 2019. I have the 11-50t 12 spend nx. I snapped my chain due to a clumsy gear shift.
Measured it to be a bit too worn so I replaced it but now I have slipping in the 11t cog under load. It rides ok until I stand and give it some. Surely the 11t is the last cog to wear out??
This made me paranoid it’s the free hub pawls.I took a look and they look ok ish with a tiny burr and maybe a tiny bit of wear. They are novatecs.
Awkward this as I don’t want to spend until it’s gone. If a new cassette don’t help, it’s new pawl springs and if that fails is new hubs but I may as well upgrade at that point.
It depends how much you use the 11t I suppose. That’s the rear cassette cog with the least teeth to spread the pressure across so can wear out. If the last chain was that far gone it’s quite possible the new one won’t mesh properly.
In terms of pawls / springs - I’ve had some recently experience with a couple of Hope freehubs. As long as the pawls are clean / spring out easily and the drive ring is in good condition I don’t see how it could be them causing the problem. Especially if you didn’t have that issue before you changed the chain.
Have you still got the old chain? If it wasn’t slipping and you changed it because it was stretched I’d just stick it back on and ride until the cassette starts slipping and then change everything in one go.
Could be chain suck on the front chainring (feels like slipping when it releases) if that is similarly worn - often only happens in particular gears (i.e. particular chainline).
I had the same issue with my NX 12 speed cassette on the 11t cog it looked like the cog had a buckle in it. Replaced with a cheap AliExpress cassette and everything seems fine so far.
It's not an e bike is it? I've heard tales of people wearing top gear quite quickly by grinding and leaning heavily on the assistance.
no not an ebike - it puts me off an ebike TBH.
Im pretty sure its not chain suck. cassette of freehub or both im sure of it..
Not sure how much effort is worth putting into sorting novotec hubs. It sounds like i need to throw some money at it to solve the problem.
the 11t being the only one that is slipping sounds wrong, although, that is where the most force is applied i guess.
Is this on Scandal by any chance? I've pretty much the same issue (although a bit higher up the block than you) but all other symptom/causes seem the same, chain snapped on 12 speed NX cassette. Everything set up well, new chain, index accurately nothing bent, just doesn't like too much force applied to one cog. Weird.

Is it the cog physically slipping on the freehub or is it the chain not wrapping around the cog properly. The 11T has the tightest radius so if there is a stiff link or the quick link has not been fitted correctly it will often 'slip'
I have the NX cassette and on an ebike i've not had an issue with slippage like this on the 11t, i just rarely use the 11t, it's the smallest cog so will always be wearing faster due to that, have you checked your mech is set right, so is the B screw set up right, is the H limit screw correct as well, or is it a little too much to one side?
Is it the cog physically slipping on the freehub
Check this, as it can be difficult to fit the last cog on and the cassette lockring. I have had to clean all the cogs / spacers to get them to fit.
New chain same number of links as the old one?
Only time I’ve ever had a chain only skip on 11t cog was when using a zee mech on 10s 11-42 cassette. The right chain length for the 42 was too long for the 11 so the mech couldn’t take any slack out of the chain and it would skip. Fixed with a road link (then an xt mech)
11t cog could spin on the freehub if not lined up with the splines, but it sounds like this happened before you took the cassette off and didn’t happen before the chain swap so doesn’t seem likely
I had a problem with a free hub the lock ring on the cassette came loose.
The 11t ring slipped and took the corners off the grooves on the free hub.
The smallest cog always slipped under pressure after that
