Is the one up jobbie still the "best" choice or are those hope 40t any good?

Hope 40T works well for me, along with a Hope 30T front and a Zee mech.

Hope 40t running fine
One Up 42t running fine

One Up gets a lower gear but may need more mech mods.

I've got a superstar. Cheaper than the others and seems to work can't comment on life yet, though.

One-up has the option of a 16t to replace 15 & 17t. Makes the step in the gearing easier than a 15-19 jump.

I bought Hope and Superstar.
Both faultless in 40t flavor.

Bird have proper 10 speed Shimano 16T sprockets which are worth getting.

Hope 40T here and works fine.

We also do the works ring (which is excellent) with a 16T for £40. http://shop.birdmtb.com/spares-and-components/works-components-40t-genuine-xt-10-speed-16t-sprocket.html

One of the good things about that being its been extensively tested for hub compatibility, something thats more important than you might think. I know this as I did most of the hub testing for Works before they went into production 🙂

Praxis now do a 11-40 cassette, it is more expensive but no expander cog or swapping out cogs.
11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-34-40 so a good range

I've stuck with One Up, the prices are pretty comparable and I feel like they deserve the business for busting the whole thing open, rather than rewarding copyists and jonny-come-latelys (same reason I get Works narrow-wides- a very good company, Works) . YMMV of course! Quality is good, longevity is excellent...

Gentlemen at Works Components - please can I have a 42t cog to the same standard as my N/W ring and slackset. I notice the 2 extra teeth.

Bikeseven do these ones:

Only seen one in the shop so can't comment as to reliability but it looked pretty decently made...
