My trusty steel road bike has 2 x sets of wheels, both fitted with Tiagra 12-30 10 speed cassettes. The 'summer' rear hub is a 10 speed Giant (DT Swiss) Onyx. I've fitted that Tiagra cassette without a spacer, as per Shimano advice (the Tiagra 10 speed 4600 cassette is wider than 10 speed 105 and above, so no spacer is used).

The 'winter' hub is an 10/11 speed Miche Primato, which came with a spacer. If I use the spacer, rear sprocket alignment is well out when compared to the Giant hub. If I remove the spacer, the rear mech gets awfy close to the spokes and alignment is still out. It also knocks out front alignment (it's a triple).

Regardless of the uniqueness of the Tiagra 10 speed cassette spacing, is there a spacer (or range of very thin spacers) available that ensures both cassettes are spaced identically regardless of which rear wheel is fitted?

TIA

The OP already has one of those spacers.

The short answer to your question is no.

The spacer is required as an 11spd freehub is longer than a 10spd one. Remove it and the cassette will be loose. Use a thinner one and it'll be loose. Use a fatter one and you likely won't have enough thread engagement for the lockring to be done up properly. If you're swapping wheels then just get used to adjusting the mech stops each time.

Sometimes you'll get lucky with wheels and be able to swap between 2 without any adjustments but clearly not in this case.

Thanks Simon, that's what I feared. May sell the Giant wheels and just run the bombproof wheels all year round. Or I could buy a summer frame.......

Swap the single spacer for multiple thin 0.5mm (or thinner) spacers to dial in the cassette position to match the other hub?

Might mix n match thinner spacers. If that doesn't work, a new Pinion or Rohloff bike should sort the problem...

Doesn't take much to adjust the stops and tension.when you swap wheels.

Do it when ever I change my disk to a deep on the tt bike.

Takes about 10 minutes Inc swapping the whole cassette over
