Carrying ebike spare batteries?

After a recent moan about declining battery life I am nearly ready to buy a new one. I was of course thinking about carrying the old one as a spare to extend range but what's the best way? I am wary of having it in a back pack. What do other people do?

Range extender? Adds even more weight to the bike, but from what I've seen, it tends to be lower down so hopefully not upsetting center of gravity too much.
How much is the old battery got left in it? Might not be worth carrying it if it hasn't got much real use left in it...

Depending on the size of the battery. Evoc e-ride FR Trail backpack. I carry a Gen1 Kenevo 504wh battery with surprising inconvenience

It's a Shimano 8010 so no chance of a range extender. It can still do about 20 miles so could still be useful for a proper all day ride. The Evic sounds interesting, will investigate

I did it a few times with that Evoc backpack. It still found it uncomfortable, but my bike didn't have a bottle cage either, so I'd often have a bottle(s) or bladder, tools etc. too. It added up to quite a lot of weight. I mostly used the spare for uplift days in the end.

I think people have rigged up range extenders by splicing into the main battery feed, but it starts to become quite faffy at that point.

If you need a key to remove the battery, remember to take it too!!

The Levo batteries are pretty awkward to carry. Both teh 500 and 700w are too long for any backpack imho... I went for a TrailWatts extender which comes with a special loom and sits in the bottle cage.

I use an Evoc e-ride FR Trail to carry a 500w Bosch battery as a spare, it's manageable for trail riding but with 2 litres of water and other kit the bag weighs around 10kg
