I'm sure this has been done to death but I can't find the answers I'm looking for.
I have a Vito which I want to carry 2 mtbs regularly and occasionally 2 road bikes too. I'd like to leave the 2 rear seats in if poss but would like to find a way of carry the mountain bikes so I can put them in/take them out whole - ie with wheels etc one.
My best thinking at the moment is a kind of false floor which will provide storage and slots or similar to hold the bikes but wondered what others do?
Would appreciate any advice/pictures etc
Thanks in anticipation
I'm looking at the vito. Is your the compact or lwb? I'm guessing yours is the dual dab?
My bikes are just bungeed to the walls and/or each other. Does it have to get more complicated?
I just bungy bikes to the side wall (ply-lined) and have a big dog bed that I put between them to protect paintwork.
The dog bed doubles up as a comfy mat to stand on whilst changing or a sleeping mat if necessary.
3 mates have VW transporter combi's, one mate has the Vito equivalent, and all just bungy their bikes to the sides, and to each other when multiple bikes are loaded.
Ta for the replies all.
@P20, mine's compact dualiner - 2 seats in the front and 3 in the back though one has been removed. Loving it so far.
@deadkenny - absolutely - thanks for those, real food for thought.
Re just tying them to the side, it has windows all round so this means bars onto glass 🙁 Hence the need to get them supported somehow.
put them upside down and bungee to side.
I have a swb t5 kombi. I have taken out the single rear seat leaving the double.
One (or two) bikes lean against the rear double seat and are secured with a strap. In the back I put a third bikes front wheel into the corner made by van side and rear of back seat. Secure with strap round seat tube. With the long axis of the bike on a diagonal nothing touches the van sides. A fourth bike can go alongside. For five or six bikes then all wheels off and stack parallel in the back with gear between bikes.
A few large sheets of cardboard live in the van to stop bikes rubbing on each other.

Because that's how balance bikes are made...
LWB T5 Kombi here - bikes fit in whole, lengthways with the rear seats in, and bungee to the side, with some old curtains to separate them. I fitted some extra hooks to the tops of the side walls to aid bungeeing.
quick and easy 🙂
I use one of these : http://www.evanscycles.com/products/saris/racks-tracks-47-inch-ec050221v
Don't bother with wheel carriers as just bungee to side of bike. Works really well, and rack doesn't slide about. I have a T5 with Caravelle bench seat in the back.
