I've got a new SQR tour (slim), the ride home tonight was punctuated by occasional 'rests' while I had to stop and find/pick up my rear light - it kept falling out of the little loop that looks like it should do the job, but is in fact completely useless, because A) it points the light at the ground, and B) won't hold onto the light anyway.
Any tips on how to attach a rear light? - I normally mount them on the seat post, but that's not an option here.
Right now, it looks like I'll be back to using the rucksack on Monday.

What light are you using?
I use a Moon Comet on seat stay and a Cateye of some description on the SQR tour and it's fine attached to the lid loop but it's got a tight clip. If you struggle to clip the light on to the loop then it tends to be good enough to stay on, the problem occurs when the light is easy to clip on/off.
Loop is rubbish as even if you find a light that doesn't fall off it shifts depending on what you've in the bag.
I use a seat stay light and a bodged méchano mounted light on the back of my saddle rails. Depending on the bike I've also a Lumicycle rack mounted bright light
Mine is fine with a Smart Lunar rear light.
You're talking about the grab handle on the lid of the bag? My GF has hers clipped to the loop at the end of the handle where it attaches to the vertical strap bit of the bag, rather than the middle where it can move around. This keeps it in place. Reading that back it is kind of difficult to understand..

The mudguard thing seems neat, but it needs to be quick-release for the weekly battery charge.
I've just tried a seat-stay mount, but it means visibility is nearly zero from one side.
Result: tomorrow = rucksack 🙁
Runs on 2 x AAAs. 30 sec to swap in a set of charged NiMHs every few weeks?
update:
i've done this:
with a few zipties.
so the light is easy to remove, it's in the right place, and it doesn't fall off.
(there's 2 zipties which make a 'bunch' out of the 2 handles, a third ziptie goes loosely around the first 2 to provide a clip for the light. The clever bit was leaving long tails on the bunching ties so that the light has something to sit against)

I have the mudguard light in the picture. Don't bother unless you're using two lights - it's just not bright enough on its own, considerably dimmer even than those £5 Smart jobbies.

I'm probably going to work out a glued fitment onto my Salmon guards for a USB charged rear light so's I can recharge it easily without removing.
on my commuter i'm running a planet x jobbie on the seat post just below the sqr pack, luckily as its a large frame/i'm tall theres space for light to emit between the guard and the bag. running a exposure rear light off my revo mounted to right hand side chainstay, and another planet x jobbie on the left chainstay, so all angles covered from rear. suprisingly the ones on the seat stays don't get in the way but can get covered in mud if its wet, but so far so good and i'm not roadkill yet...
alternatively the guard mounted light works well but need to adapt your own light to fit or buy a proper one. for my partners bike i drilled a hole in back of the battery compartment of a normal light and bolted it with a flat head screw through the mudguard, so battery replacement just means taking the red over/main body off. something like sugru helps to stop the light rotating/moving about
