Hi folks

Walk trails are there in the Carlisle area, preferably east? Looking for some decent techy trails, enduro type stuff. All I've been able to find is Armathwaite, any good?

Cheers

Nothing at all.  The best you can do is a Gelt woods (footpaths) and then something out Castle Carrock way but its isnt anything techy.  We used to do it as night rides to make it more interesting (and quieter) but once you get through the woods its a road stint UP HILL and then basically UP HILL off road and then downhill to then reverse your route back to Gelt.

If you are based in Carlisle you unfortunately need to either accept 45mins drive each way or get a road bike for through the week to get the miles into your legs.

Thanks for the reply, bit disappointing to read though. Thankfully from an MTB prospective I'm not based in Carlisle but will be staying there a fair bit over the coming weeks so was planning on bringing my bike. So I take it that the trails in Trailforks located just south of Armathwaite are not worth a visit?

Not been for several years but Coomb Woods had q a few trails of varying steepness and getting back up was easy enough.

Ae is an hour away. Newcastleton maybe 45 mins. Down to Penrith to Alston area (30-40 mins) youve got Cross Fell and the Northern Pennines. Carlisle (10 miles radius), is roadie country, its pretty flat.

I guy i work with rides up that way a fair bit at Combe wood and Armathwaite, he's a pretty good rider and says its steep and tech in places. Trail forks is your friend.

Armathwaite is Coombs. I've been a couple of times and definitely worth a look. Loads up there, from relatively flowy to sketchy as ****.

Pooley Bridge is only 35 mins away, plenty to ride around there.

Just for completeness, rode Coombs Wood at the weekend and it was great. However I would say that the majority of the trails are more DH/Enduro. Excellent use is made of the hill but the trails are very steep, tight switchbacks and some seriously gnadgery stuff there. Not for the fainthearted and expect some OTB moments! There is one trail call "Bumps" that is more flowy with nice berms etc., it was a lot of fun on the hardtail but just be cautious on the (very) steep stuff of which there is a lot.
