After some advice on child seats if anyone can offer any...
Our cargo bike is currently fitted with a basic plywood box, no bench or any other bits in it yet, and we need to sort out something for transporting the beast (7 months old at present) around in it.
At the moment I'm just going to be using seatbelt/ratchet straps to strap his car seat in, with the straps anchored through the box and to the frame so should be sturdy enough, but it might be a bit of a faff fitting and removing the seat all the time as we will also need to be able to still use it in the car and also need to room for shopping etc. in the bike.
I've seen that Babboe do a baby/child seat that fits their bikes, but can't find any info or pics of how it is actually mounted so not sure if it can be adapted to other bikes easily.
Does anyone have any experience of fitting the Babboe seat to other brands, or of any other seats and ease of fitting etc?
I'm not afraid of making some mounts or fittings if necessary but want to make life easy for myself, not hard so preference would be for something that 'just bolts in' if at all possible...
Thanks in advance for any info!
How about one of the yepp rack mounted seats and the easy carry adaptor? You could bolt this to the box and just clip the seat in. Easy to remove and doesn't take the whole box if you wanted to carry cargo instead.
Ive literally got a plywood bench screwed down to a piece of 3x2 laid across the width of the box and backrests made of ply too at a comfortable angle about 4 inches forward of the back of the box for helmet clearance. A set of universal pram seatbelts (5 point) threaded through big holes and tied off for stopping them falling out.
My twins have been co-pilots since 11 months old, they’re now 2 and ive modified the positioning of the bench as theyve got taller and longer to clear the handlebars.
We have a gazelle cabby that has bolt in mounts for maxi cosi mount baby seats. Dead easy as it is the same system as for many buggies and car seats. The mounts bolt to the frame of the cabby so could probs be attached easily to a ply box or similar.
@himupstairs - are you still using the adapters? I need a set for my cabby but they're hard to come by
@op - buy another carseat (group 1 perhaps) and bold that in? 2nd hand seats are worth naff all - under a tenner on Gumtree etc
All good ideas thanks, some I've already had, others I'd not considered... leaning more towards a solution with the seat being easily removed as the bike is used for carrying 'stuff' as well.
