Any Miggly Moos or other locals around cardiff able to help me plan an extension to my local ride?
I ride from Cardiff center to/and through Rudry forrest and up to the Mast at Mynydd Machen. From here i take the middle xc DH (over the fence) which leads me back to Machen before heading back to Cardiff. Im looking to extend my loop by dropping down the other side of Machen. Can anyone direct me to some fun stuff and a good route that may take me up to the nearest side of the Cwmcarn Twrch trail to do the final climb/descents.
Also, whats is the easiest climb to the top of Machen?
Cheers
Have a look at this new club that is based in that area that maybe of interest to you, loads of rides on the Machen too

Cheers, i assume you ride as a club once monthly and do random weekend trips. Sounds great only i rarely have time for week day rides this time of the year, plus i havent bought descent lights as yet.
From the mast, follow the service road until it turns sharp right, at this point carry straight on across the top, down the steep technical descent until you reach the tarmac road. Turn right and follow it for a hundred yards or so,then take the trail on the left, follow it down to the fire road, which you'll virtually cross(left then right), more descending will bring you out by the ranger's hut in Sirhowy, take the descent next to the hut(slippery), turn right when you reach the road, then keep going straight ahead and you'll end up in Cwmcarn.
Cheers for that, do you mean the Forrest carpark when you say cwmcarn? Can you join it and just do the final sections?
Yes, you'll end up on the road that leads to the main entrance(once you've crossed the junction with the traffic lights).Follow the normal trail as far as the toll booth, then head up(carefully, you'll be going against any traffic)the road on the right, carry straight onwards to the barrier at the tight left hand hairpin, and you'll be on the track to the final descent.
