Has anyone bought one of these direct from Carbonda or one of the other distributors direct? If so where did you buy from? I've seen a few on AliExpress but can't discern if ones better than the other!

I was about to hit buy on a used Vitus substance on ebay until I realized it looked very similar to a free ranger! Now wondering if I can get it new for a bit less...

Thanks as ever.

@Daffy did:

I nearly did, but ended up just getting it as a Free Ranger instead. I think it's a great bike.

Isn't this essentially the Planet X / OnOne Freeranger? You can often pick these up in the UK new or nearly new for less than importing.

I bought one direct from their website. It wasn't that cheap really but decent enough compared to the alternatives, and you get a custom paint job.

I did, I never got round to building it up due to the great COVID groupset drought. Make me an offer?

I bought mine direct from Carbonda.  Ordered in January 2020, delivered in March.  Covid.

it’s been flawless.  20k km of commuting in all weathers and still great,  even the paint has been VERY hardwearing.  There are only a couple of scratches from where my u-lock gets passed through the frame several times per week.

Recommended.

@scruffythefirst what size have you got?

@Daffy how much did you pay? I guess what you paid 3 years ago is pretty meaningless now though...

Dolan GXC is pretty much the same frame too - only with a press fit bb.  Been really impressed with mine - Dolan have a lovely purple metallic paint option.

I’ve built mine up for relaxed road biking with Hunt 4seasons wheels (road v1) and di2 etc - really impressed with it. Light / fast / comfortable etc.

Pretty sure it's a large. Based in Cambridge, drop me a pm if it's of interest.

I'm not sure this has ever been confirmed? Given that designs are routinely copied in China, the fact that it looks the same means very little. Mine's been OK but I've not used it anywhere near as much as I planned. If anything I've found it quite stiff but not sure if that is the wheels.

I'd agree with @Butcher.  I think, despite not being much heavier than my Open Upper, that it's substantially stiffer.  I've also swapped wheel between the bikes, and it's still stiffer.  It could be the rack installed on mine which is adding to the stiffness.

I think I paid £470 delivered as just a frame and fork - no axles, headsets, clamps, bolt, etc.

Judging by my conversation with Carbonda at the time, they're the same.

On one have used carbonda, or rather the sister company flybike for a few frames, like the whippet.

http://www.flybike-asia.com/product/175.html

Though last I heard, if the frame isn't listed by carbonda, they don't sell it to punters like us.
