Never been thrilled by the idea but seem pretty popular-opinions?
What's to worry about? I've had them on MTB, road and cross bikes with absolutely no issues.
carbon freaks me out 😳
Yep got one on my mtb and no issues. Ride it pretty hard too. go for it!
i had a reba wc snap njee but i still agree it'l be reet.
Pretty surprised by that nonk, never heard of anyone breaking an MTB one.
Just look for George Hincapie's Roubaix crash a few years back. That'll put you right off alu!
wasn't that a filed down race/proto steerer that went?
but that sort of face/ground interaction is something i'd like to avoid 🙂
my mate snapped his reba wc one too
@njee yeah me to, tftuned didnt seem that suprised mind you.
I've a full carbon 'cross fork/frame for a couple of years - no problems so far, put it through some singletrack and rocky coastal tracks that I'm sure it was never intended for too and so far, so good.
frame and fork doesnt worry me its specifically a carbon steerer
I've been beating the crap (essentially, using it as a mountainbike) out of my crossbikes full carbon fork for a couple of years, and no problems yet...

Postscript,
Sadly, west kipper has gone to the happy hunting ground, after his carbon steerer exploded and launched his helmetless(as usual) head into a choice specimen of Pinus Silvestris.
The tree's fine.
to be fair if you ride without a helmet then maybe the carbon steerer is the least of your worries?
oh ****!,I think I'd rather actually be deid than have this kick off again 🙄

well you're going the right way about the death thing
ps you brought your lack of helmet into this 😉
yeah, I know,I s'pose I did start it, sorry!, I was being a wee bit ironic though! 🙂
edit, though I would recommend you check out previous helmet threads- I have way more faith in a carbon steerer than a polystyrene hat.
Yeah I used to take my crossbike (with full carbon fork) to Ashton Court every week and rag it round. Despite having horrific brake judder that never broke!
I'd not heard of the Reba WCs snapping, mine were good as gold, as were my SID WC in years gone by!
The more expensive, monocoque types should be more reliable than the versions with separate materials bonded together.
Really, the weak link is more likely to be the fitting and installation of stem and crownrace by a careless mechanic.
Can't really understand the fear that carbon components generate for mtb or cross use.
I'm sure a road bike hitting pot-holes and gratings etc. on tarmac at 25+ mph on skinny tyres puts much more stress on components.

having seen the aftermath of a bike + rider hitting a parked car i cant say i feel any more reassured 🙁
