I'm thinking of a carbon seatpost on my carbon framed Canondale. Mainly to take a bit of the harshness out of the ride.
Does anyone on here use one, and do they make a difference?
Mine is trendily thin at 25.4 if that is relevant.
If they are worth getting is there anything to look for in terms of types of cf or are they all more or less the same?
A thin titanium seatpost would be a lot better
Tell me more. Hadn't thought of that.
The Cannondale seatpost size is really small so I think that limits your choice. I keep looking st Carbon posts for my caad12 then deciding it’s probably not worth it. But it would look bling in Carbon.
I have a CAAAD12 so ally frame but tried one with an ally post back to back with a carbon post and the difference was huge (made sure tyre pressures were same).
On a carbon bike not sure you would notice so much if honest. I tried the carbon Cannondale at the same time and even with same geo and finishing kit it felt completely different, dull and lifeless compared to the ally bike.
If you asking for weight purposes most of weight is in the clamp so not as much in it as would think.
Yup. Choice is very limited. I've found a few, ranging from £35 to £120. Now that confuses me.
I don't normally do bling, but.....
If you don't have much seatpost sticking outside the frame then the material will make little difference.
Carbon can be flexy - it can also be very stiff.
When I added a carbon post to an alu frame it made it many time more comfortable, defo recommend

I have done. But nobody has one in stock with no ideas when they will have!!!
I like the look of the Canyon road post and really must try one.

I'd wondered about the difference between Ti and Carbon also...
I tried a carbon post in alu frame and it made no discernible difference at all. Maybe if the post is really long there could be am effect but remember it can't compress vertically, only flex backwards by a very small amount. I can imagine those leaf spring type designs are more effective but you might get more comfort from bigger tyres.
Cannondale spares have a carbon save seatpost in 25.4mm. £109 though!

Cheers. Will have a look, but it's a bit pricey.
I certainly felt a positive difference when I swapped the 27.2mm alloy that came with my Cube Attain GTC Pro Disc for a Slecof carbon last summer, despite only having ~16cm of post (to top of clamping section) above the seat tube.
How much post is showing? What saddle are you using? Dales have horizontal top tubes, so much less post than a Giant TCR for example means mess bending moment. The thinner seatpost may help with this, but I would not expect great things.
On my mtb with a long seatpost it makes a huge difference, even for 27.2 diameter. But don’t get your hopes up. I think saddle will have a bigger difference.

Worth ringing qwerty too if you want the Save one - they do them at £90 but not in stock, but being spares specialists for Cannondale they might get one quick.

I had an old USE thin titanium post, in a voodoo steel hardtail that I did a sportif on, and then later on a 725 genesis equilibrium.
there I was thinking that I was experiencing the fabled steel springiness and compliance as I went over small potholes and bumps in the road, but then my post broke (it was old, the junction with the seat clamp became 'unglued') and I replaced it with a carbon one.
fabled steel springiness and compliance had now gone, it was all in that seatpost.
I bought another USE post but this was a sumo one so thicker and therefore not so springy.
Thanks TG.
Another thought has occured to me...a Thudbuster ST. They come in 25.4, and there isn't the weight penalty with the LT version. I might have a look at them, they do flex, regardless of amount protruding.
A good carbon post will be noticeable, but if its comfort you are after then some bigger tyres at lower pressures will be betterer
I had a ti seatpost, it bent. The (very good) bloke at my LBS told me he'd never seen a ti seatpost that hadn't eventually bent.
