Was merrily smashing the old bearings out of my Alloy Strive last using trusty lump hammer and assorted sizes of sockets and threaded bar drifts, when I started wondering what sort of techniques are required for carbon frames. I might come into some money one day and do something stupid like buy a carbon full suss bike, but would I find my days of a DIY bike mechanic numbered or are there some Carbon friendly bearing removing techniques people have learned, or do you just send it back to the manufacturer?
Tom
Carbon frames generally have aluminium inserts bonded into the frame where the bearings sit. Unless you're a total ape the method of removing/installing bearings remains the same AFAIK.
Thanks Sundayjumper, guess I can keep saving for that dream carbon frame 🙂
