Do you apply grease when fitting new frame bearings?
The instructions for my current frame say to grease the bearing seats before pressing in new bearings so I would say yes.
Yes. lubes the interface making them easier to go in, and helps them to come out again.
Yeah it’s always good to apply grease , it makes it lol easier
What does your frame manufacturer recommend?
The Stumpy evo I did recently recommended Loctite.
I don't understand why you'd use loctite, are the bearings likely to fall out without it? I used loctite on the bolts and Shimano anti seize grease on the bearings. Given how hard they were to get out I wouldn't dream of not using the grease.
I've never used Loctite before because it wasn't recommended.
But for that frame it's what Spech recommended so for that job that's what I used.
Old bearings had traces of Loctite on when removed and came out fine.
Just saying may be worth checking what manufacturers recommend and go with that.
Some carbon frames seem to have excessive clearance for bearing outer races (I'm thinking Santa Cruz headsets in particular). Greasing them will just facilitate movement and increase wear. Definitely check manufacturers recommendations and use grease/retainer as directed or needed.
Pivot recommends green loctite for my Mach 5.5 too. Guess it’s manufacturer dependent
