I want to lighten my do-it-all utility bike by putting some rigid carbon forks on it and I've narrowed my selection down to the Trek 1120 forks and the Sonder Pathfinder, however.....

The Axle to crown measurement on my current Steel Karate Monkey forks is 483mm and the forks I'd like to buy are 510mm and 500mm. I know this set up probably won't result in the end of the world but has anyone here ever done anything similar? Am I to expect any negative side effects of the added length aside from a slightly slacker front end?

Raised BB and slacker STA would be the downsides (well usually downsides rather than positives)

I went for a Whisky non-Boost on my steel frame and love it.

Brother Cycles have a great option if you don't need too big a tyre and are ok with non-Boost

Travers Prong would be the best value (and probably up there with the best full stop) Boost fork. Slight raise compared to what you have

eXotic make a great fork if a little less refined ride feel compared to the others. This one felt very similar to my Salsa steel fork in being a bit unsubtle when unloaded. Lots of fit and axle variations available for minimal extra raise

Yea, 483 steel fork on my Cotic cascade swapped for a pathfinder, next to not difference apart from a huge weight loss

Nice, that's good to hear.

Thanks for the reply.

After more 'research' today I added that Brother fork to the mix as also mentioned by DanW. They both look pretty similar but with one being Boost and the other standard. Luckily I have a set of Hope wheels that'll happily do either set up so it's just a case of cost and aesthetics.

I would also love a Whisky No9 in the right length but just can't justify the cost!!

Brother or Pathfinder it is.

Thanks all.
