Building up a Ti HT and frame on its way. Ti bars are too expensive so going to Chuck on some Carbon ones.

Not sure whether to get some Renthal ones with an apex stem. Or something like a race face next R bar with turbine stem.

Not sure how the renthals and a touch of gold would look alongside a Ti frame?

What carbon bars/stem combo are people rocking/enjoying?

I've got a copper nukeproof stem on my ti frame, which I think compliment each other.

My race bike is a titanium Salsa El Mariachi. Thomson stem and Mt Zoom carbon bars. Faultless.

77designz

Stem is only 88g and  when matched with the bar makes around 300g combo. I been using mine for around 6months now and had no issues. Comfortable bar and hand possition, stem is plenty stiff enough and the carbon bar give a nice compliance.

Wow there are some posh combos above.

I’m running a Brand X carbon bar on both my bikes (one is raw and one is metalflake sparkly blue) with a 50mm Thomson billet stem on one and a DMR Defy cnc’d stem on the other (both black).

I like how subtle it looks tbh - I’m not a fan of the look of Renthal. Aren’t the Renthal’s meant to be really stiff as carbon bars go too?

If you’ve got good budget and want compliance I think I’d consider Oneup carbon bars.

I don’t know if this helps but black stem / carbon bar against a Ti ish looking colour frame (it’s actually raw steel pre-painting with no coating on it):

Really like my deity carbon bars, just the right upsweep and backsweep for me.

Available in colours to suit most builds.

Stem wise, ive got a nukeproof copper on my ht and black ANVL (Transition) Swage. would happily recommend either.

I've On One carbon bars and stem on my Ti HT.

On the alloy HT I've put Brand X bars as they're now 800mm and 40mm rise.

@monkeyboyjc - you're aware of the recall on those 77designz stems, right?

OneUp bar and stem is about the budget I want to spend.

Will look at the Deity bars too.

Renthal bars are imo a bit ugly- I like mine, they're good bars if maybe a little stiffer than I'd ideally have but the "gold" is pretty cheesy.

Nukeproof Horizon has nicely understated graphics and I really like the shape, they're a little bit softer than the Renthals too which I like (but not outright flexy like my crank bros ones, just enough to take the edge off)

Stems, tbh you don't need to spend much at all to get a good stem. I'm a total tart when it comes to bikes but that didn't stop me putting a cheap RSP Trail on it.

Yep - mine wasn't in it, each stem is serial numbered. 77designs press released and sorted those that were pretty quick - you just need to email a photo of the serial number to them.

I got mine just as that news came out. Unfortunate, but delt with swiftly for a small batch manufacturing company. With such a light stem orientation of the aluminium grain is pretty important where small tolerance is concerned.

J&L titanium bars are affordable: £60 for 720mm flat bars with 5 degree sweep.
Enve M6 carbon stem for £80 second hand.

Here they are on my Mosaic:

Nukeproofs v2 carbon bars with the grey detailing look really good with their grey horizon stem, the blend of titanium to the grey stem to the black bars would look classy imo. The bars are reduced at CRC at the moment.

Oneup bars and dmr stem (purely for steerer length reasons, and because its silver) here.

I have a silver RaceFace stem and some lovely Thomson Ti bars I acquired 2nd hand off the STW classifieds. TBH I wasn't too fussed about having Ti bars but they are the 12 degree ones which are just perfect.

@ta11pau1 you liking the oneup bars? Do you notice a big difference?

Oh! Didn't know Thomson did a 12 degree sweep bar. I've got an SQ Labs 3OX 12 degree job, which I really like, just enough to keep some elbow niggles at bay.

And a Thomson stem. nice. And a couple of gold bits to tie in with the decals on the Helm forks. Proper gold, not Renthal gold. Gold ano Lindarets ti valve stems for pumping to tyres performance gainz. Mmmm.

I've got them on both my full sus and the hardtail, I definitely reckon there's something in them taking away some trail buzz.

Tbh I haven't ridden anything else for a couple of year and have no complaints.

I'd been looking at SQ Labs 30X too - and then these came up on the Classifieds.  😉

Worth considering the Tune Wunderbar too, as all it’s branding is black, on a black bar. Also light and comfy.

As for stems, I can’t tell the difference between really expensive carbon ones (Enve AM 70mm & M7 35mm) and decently light alloy ones (Joystick, Tune, Thomson) there’s only a few grams difference, little difference in feel, but they’re 1/2 - 1/3 the cost
