So got 28h carbon traverse rims on my stumpy. been back to the shop once for few (not just 1) spokes coming loose. now it seems its done it again with a few more.
Now im reluctant to waste the shops time each time and im fairly ok with truing alloy wheels but
what could be causing it to go loose? just rocky riding?
whats the procedure with carbon rim spoke tension?
Not sue if it helps but we have a set of 650b that did that and also bent a spoke during an Alps trip after some serious abuse. Took them to 18 Bikes and they rebuilt them with thicker stronger DT Swiss spokes. Never had a problem since.
Just built up a 29er Stumpy and fitted some Roval Csrbons that have been hanging in the garage since new. They have been Ok so far and out in the Dolomites and then the Alps so will see what they are like at the end. If they go the same will just get them rebuilt the same
Spokes coming loose is not a function of rim material. It's either under tension or uneven tension that will cause that.
Some carbon rim manufacturers wil not warranty a rim if it's built with plain gauge spokes.
For most people/applications, dt comp or sapim race built well, it more than enough.
Personally I'd want to know the manufacturers spec for spoke tension on those wheels and to use a tension gauge when I do them.
Also, unless you have some kind of qualification (I.e. cytech wheel building) sorting them yourself will almost certainly invalidate your warranty.
In your position, I'd let the shop do it, then you're covered.
