I'm thinking of carrying a water pistol while riding. Every. Single. Car. Every one had their windows open today and pulled up right next to me, often with a passenger. How is it that people think a door and open window somehow negates the need for a 2 meter distance?
I asked one person politely to close their window and got shouted at. I've decided that humans will probably not make it past this issue due to mass stupidity and inability to follow simple rules.
And before you say it...on a bike I can move 2m away from pedestrians and other cyclists. Cars still pull up right next to us and pedestrians.
On another note, if you're behind another cyclist (on the road) and they turn off please try not to follow them. I got several PRs up hills in order to avoid contact on my solo ride! Alternatively shout loudly that you need to overtake 🙂
Sorry, feeling ranty due to isolation...
Cough at them.
White Tipper Truck Man shouted at me to "SELF ISOLATE" through his open window as I rode along a quiet road today on my own.
I don't know if his mate in the passenger seat tried to explain irony to him afterwards 🤷♂️
You already have a water pistol in the form of a water bottle

Allegedly. They can't prove anything if you add the word "allegedly" 😎
Have a sudden coughing fit and i bet they'll shut it pretty quick.
Go off-road if you can easy to get away from people was in the Forest Of Dean yesterday.
Massive comedy sneeze
I thought it was 2m for 15 mins to have a risk of infection. This has come up on running forums before and it seems just fine to run by someone closer than 2m. If they are spitting out of the window at the time that is clearly another matter

Presumably its a statistical likelyhood. You could catch it instantly from several meters away, but probably many times less likely. Same in your scenario, you cant (and obviously dont intend to) stop for a chat and look at your watch and think "ohh 14min58s, better get a move on".
Id be avoiding built up areas for that exact reason. All my rides will be heading away from town to minimise any contact and maximise the distances between me and the next person.
Rub your conkers on their wing mirror. That'll learn em.
Take an aggressive position while queuing so they can't get past you. Take the space of a car. Then when traffic moves, return to your cycling position.
You might still get shouted at
I agree with Damascus. It doesn't need to be super aggressive. Maybe 1m from the kerb. If they do pull up tight next to you then you can move over that 1m and you'll be a decent distance away.
I wouldn't do anything aggressive (like the water thing) or even say anything. You risk an altercation which will just make thins worse.
Wear your GoPro, when they pull up close tell them they should be 2 m away. If they don’t respond shame them on social media and send a copy to the daily fail. I think they pay for that kind of thing.
