You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hey all - so I sent this video to YT and said it looks like there is something up with my headset race / headtube (it's carbon not cupped). Their first reply is that it's normal and should all be good once tightened up.
I've had the bike about 2 years and it's started creaking from the front. I first thought it was likely the CSU on the Lyriks but I can't get them to creak by hand off the bike so not sure it's that.
So I turned to the frame and noticed this! The creak is quite sharp and very noticeable when landing jumps or bunny hopping or just any medium sized impact.
I can send off the forks to warranty too but I'd feel a bit of a fool if it wasn't them... any thoughts?
* i've tried regreasing ect... no joy.
EDIT - sorry for the heavy breathing!
Has it got the same play left to right? If not and we presume it would of started out round that suggests its ovalised through use ie impacts and braking.
If they say that's normal and will go away when tightened then they can only be relying on the small contact area of the chamfered part of the bearing and seat in the frame .
now i need to check mine after watching that!
My friend has the same issue, the headset bearing cup, which is part of the carbon frame, is slightly ovalated. He also contacted YT regarding the issue and they said its perfectly normal, this was probably nearly 18 months ago if not longer when he had other issues with the parts fitted.
He also had the issue with the BOS forks steerer cracking and was replaced with the Lyriks and since then it has occasionally made the same noise.
As above, it does go away when tightened, but makes a noise after a week of riding and requires tightening again.
this:
suggests the stem is not clamping the steerer sufficiently enough and it is slipping in use.makes a noise after a week of riding and requires tightening again.
Silly little stem pinch bolts and lightweight cut away stems with less clamping area are the norm these days.
a stem with greater contact around the steerer and decent pinch bolts may grip the steerer more securely.
carbon paste may help a weedy lightweight stem grip more securely also.
sub 30lb bikes being ridden like DH bikes was never a smart idea, Something is always compromised.
but #Enduro.
Mine isnt even after a week of riding - once cleaned and rebuilt it creaks.
I'm going to try a new headset and pop the forks in a vice and see if it's them.
Doh
ovalated that's going straight in my book of awesome not words.
I was surprised it wasn't a word, I have heard it used quite a bit! 😆
Correct usage is ovalerfied or eggificated
